A moment of silence for my iPod

It's almost 1 am and the house is quiet. Maranda even has a friend spending the night and I think they're actually asleep. I guess they've been worn out by a long week at school. I probably should go to sleep also, but I'm not really sleepy right now.

We've got another snowstorm coming sometime tomorrow (later today actually) and they're forecasting up to a foot of snow in this system that will be here through Sunday. I still have some stocking stuffers to buy (almost all of them) and I think I'd better get it done on Saturday. I'm not sure if I'll have time, though. We've also got tickets for us to go to a hockey game tomorrow night. I think it will be fun, but am a little disappointed that we didn't think to get tickets to the game against the Lincoln Stars (our former home team).

My frustration of the week is that my ipod died. :( Poor thing. I've had it since Christmas 2004 and it's just given up. The hard drive in it has gone bad. Since I listen to my ipod to go to sleep at night, my nightly routine was totally screwed up the night that I discovered this. Thankfully, the next night Mark let me borrow his ipod mini. However, I tried syncing it with one music playlist (all my xmas music) and just a few of the podcasts that I wanted to listen to and it said that there wasn't enough room. I kept cutting back on the podcasts until there were only 3-30 minute podcasts. His ipod mini is only 1 gb and hardly anything fits on it! But, it's better than nothing. The night that I figured out my ipod died though, I was super close to just getting on the apple website and ordering a new nano. Then, I had a BRILLIANT idea! I need an iPhone. My palm pilot has also been doing some crazy things lately, too. This also leads me to believe that I need an iPhone. :)

I brought it up with Mark the other day and he didn't completely freak out. Now, I've spent some time researching online, talking to a friend that works at the Apple store and getting advice from some other friends. I think I've decided that I need a 16gb iPhone which is $299. Now, I need to talk to AT&T to see if our account has me being eligible for a new phone sometime soon. This puts me in Phase Three of Operation iPhone. Phase Four will be me figuring out the funding for said iPhone and Phase Five will be going to the AT&T store in the mall and buying one! I'll be sure to keep everyone updated. :)

I've seen 93 out of 239 films

SUPPOSEDLY if you’ve seen over 85 films, you have no life. Mark the ones you’ve seen. There are 239 films on this list. Copy this list, go to your own blog, Facebook account or website, paste this as a note or blog entry. Then, put X’s next to the films you’ve seen, add them up, change the header adding your number, and click post at the bottom. Have fun.

Now Add them up and…

Put “I’ve seen [however many] out of 239 films” in the subject line and repost it on Facebook or your blog. And for that matter, leave a comment here to let me know how many you've seen or comments about any of the movies I've seen. :)

Inspiration

I was asked/told today at Noon today that I needed to say something inspirational at the conclusion of the dinner recognizing this semester's Emerging Leader group. Emerging Leaders is a program for first-semester first-year (or freshmen) students that groups them with an upperclass student to complete a project on campus or in the community.

Here's what I came up with this afternoon:

First of all, congratulations on and thank you for all your hard work this semester. You've accomplished so much. It's impressive to have seen throughout the semester and to hear more tonight about all the projects that were able to happen because of you.

Second, your participation in the Emerging Leaders program has prepared you to continue serving and leading your peers, the college and the greater community. You may have discovered how you'd like to continue to do these types of things through your project, you may yet learn it through your apprenticeship (if you're participating in that program) or it may still be out there waiting to be discovered.

Third, I hope you decide to continue to seek out opportunities for leadership on campus through service trips, working for and with a student organization or an office, participating in the annual leadership retreat, participating in the leadership certificate program in your junior or senior year or even by becoming a Leadership Studies minor.

In closing, I'd like to share a quote by Winston Churchill:

"To each there comes in their lifetime a special moment
When they are figuratively tapped on the shoulder
and offered the chance to do a very special thing,
unique to them and fitted to their talents.

What a tragedy if that moment finds them
unprepared or unqualified for that
which could have been their finest hour."

I think our campus is the place where students are "tapped" on the shoulder. It could be by faculty, staff, other students or even yourself. And, programs like Emerging Leaders help you to find that very special thing - whatever it may be. Thanks again for participating in the Emerging Leaders program and preparing yourself for that moment.
